I received the proof copy of my book Better Than Eleven from Amazon over the weekend and reviewed it. It’s a larger size and it feels a little different. I’ve asked several people and some like the smaller 5.5×8.5 from Lulu.com and some prefer the larger 7×10 from Amazon.com. I like them both. The printing from the Amazon copy is slightly different. They must use a different type of printer as the pictures are a little more vibrant. Both copies look good and feel good. I think you will like either size. I will post of comparison pictures when I receive the updated, corrected books. I had to update some items on each of the books as there was a typo and some text that needed to be added.
Here is the cover shot for the Amazon edition:
think it looks decent. I made some adjustments to the cover colors in the most recent edit. I think a darker green for the background looked better when I compared it to this edition.
Self-publishing books is no easy feat. I am in charge of everything and by that I mean compiling, editing, spell-checking, adjusting placement of items (pictures, etc.) and so much more. One of the least fun things is the cover design. As I’m not a designer, I’ve just been using the cover creator for both Amazon and Lulu books. They both have pros and cons, but I like Amazon’s cover creator the least. It’s clunky and half the time it doesn’t work right. I can share some specifics if anyone is interested.
Do you have any experience designing books? What are the things you’ve enjoyed most about that? Never done it? What is something else you’ve had to design that caused you some growing pains?
